The Hidden Cost of Always Fitting In

Hello December energy, you feel like a breath of fresh air compared to an emotionally challenging month that felt like being stuck on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride on repeat!

The intensity of November brought waves of profound discoveries (multiplied by ten, to be honest). While much of my mental chatter served a purpose and expanded my perspective, I’m ready to lighten up and move forward with my new insights.

We’re now in Sagittarius season, which holds greater meaning for me, as it’s my moon sign. As a Sag moon, I’m looking forward to embracing the adventurous spirit, philosophical nature, and optimistic outlook that defines this celestial energy.

My recent experience of self-discovery reminds me of that notification on your phone that warns you that you’re running out of storage space. First, you do the quick fix — delete a few photos, clear texts, and move on. But eventually, that alert keeps popping up, nudging you to look deeper.

When you finally start digging, you find all sorts of things — unused apps taking up space, playlists that don’t match your vibe anymore, and old files from the past that are no longer relevant.

That’s exactly what this Scorpio season has been for me — my spiritual ‘storage full’ notification leading to a deep emotional cleanse I didn’t even know I needed.

Like clearing out digital clutter, I sifted through old patterns, outdated beliefs, and emotional attachments that no longer served me.

It’s amazing how the universe guides us.

When we ask for growth or change, it rarely arrives in obvious ways. Instead, it’s subtle, almost hidden, like a secret to be revealed later. A book that suddenly seems so interesting, lyrics in a song that feels so powerful, a conversation that stays with you for days, or an idea that keeps returning until you finally pay attention.

These breadcrumbs often appear as sudden sparks of excitement or curiosity, leading us down unexpected paths.

My biggest reveal?

It had everything to do with how I showed up in relationships — often adapting, often attuning to others’ needs before my own.

Can you relate to being that person who’s skilled at keeping the peace?

The one who can blend into any social situation, picking up every subtle cue and adjusting yourself? While it’s an admirable ability, it comes with a hidden cost we rarely talk about.

Adaptability is a beautiful gift but, this natural tendency can sometimes lead us away from our truth. This isn’t about blame — it’s about recognizing that we often do this to get along to keep the peace.

We become so good at reading rooms and matching energies that we can lose sight of our preferences and desires. We quiet our spirit, bend to fit in, or become a smaller version of ourselves in relationships because we think it’s the only way.

Last week, I came across a quote that captured what this celestial season has taught me:

“Anything you lose by speaking your truth isn’t a loss; it’s an alignment.”

Something magical happens when we finally learn to relax and release that constant pressure to get along with others. The universe has this incredible way of leading us to exactly where (and who) we belong once we stop shapeshifting and start standing in our truth.

We all have this incredible built-in guidance system, like a radio frequency that’s always been playing in the background. The more we acknowledge these subtle signals, the more obvious they become. We’re not learning anything new — we’re simply turning up the volume on what’s been there all along.

The path to self-discovery is different for everyone, and there’s no rush. It shouldn’t feel like you’re spinning out of control like a ride at Disneyland.

A gentler approach can be to simply notice your natural preferences — like realizing you feel alive during intimate coffee dates with close friends, even though you keep saying yes to those crowded dinner parties where you barely get to have meaningful connections.

As we move through this adventurous Sagittarius season, here’s to trusting ourselves more each day. Your inner wisdom already knows the way.
