My Son Still Teases Me About This Obsession

You’re my favorite! I love the warm nights and the vibes of the summer.

As I scrolled through my Instagram feed seeking inspiration for this week’s newsletter, I stumbled on a post that took me back to simpler times and the power of music.

My son Sammy still teases me about my Sheryl Crow obsession from his childhood. Back in 2002, when “Soak Up The Sun” was released, I was a mom nearing 40, driving a minivan with three kids (10, 8, and 7), and Sheryl Crow’s album on repeat. Listening and singing kept me sane during those challenging years; little did I know I was programming my kids’ subconscious minds with my music.

To this day, Sammy can still recite most of the lyrics—not out of love but because of sheer repetition. Even though he cringes when he hears Sheryl’s music, it makes me laugh remembering those simpler times—driving around town with my crew, singing in the car to keep the mood light.

I guess if you’re going to program your kids with your favorite tunes, Sheryl’s songs are a pretty good choice. Her upbeat, happy lyrics were exactly what my soul needed during those busy days.

Check out this YouTube video.  It will lift your spirit!

My trip down memory lane reminds me of the simple joys in life—like singing in the car with your kids or heading to the beach on a sunny day. It’s so easy to get caught up in the complexities of modern life with its constant bombardment of information and technology. But there’s something magical about embracing a more intuitive, spontaneous way of living.

As Sheryl sings: “I’m gonna soak up the sun, I’m gonna tell everyone to lighten up! I’m gonna tell ’em that I’ve got no one to blame, for every time I feel lame, I’m looking up, I’m gonna soak up the sun!”

This month, I’m consciously embracing a carefree spirit. I trust my intuition, stay open to possibilities, and try to infuse my days with a sense of wonder.

Life is too precious to become weighed down by drama, fears, or negativity.

I encourage us all to embrace simplicity, listen to our hearts, and speak our truth. Let’s bravely follow our instincts and inspire others with our authentic, spontaneous joy for life.

Even when life throws curveballs our way, let’s focus on the positive aspects.

Whether it be through music, happy memories, or mindful practices, let’s find a way to adopt a “soak up the sun” mindset every day.

….. until next time many many sweet blessings.
