Discovering My Six Sense: A Personal Journey

share

Have you ever felt like you just knew something without knowing how you knew it?

That’s your intuition at work, and it’s more scientific than you might think.

Years ago, long before I started my blog, I had an Aha! moment that changed everything.

I was searching for something new in my life when a friend suggested I take a personality quiz. (Curious? Click here to give it a try!)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a popular tool that helps you understand how you’re wired.

It’s based on Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types and gives insight into how people perceive and process information.

There are 16 different types, and some are associated with intuitive abilities. My result? INFJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging) – often described as one of the most intuitively sensitive types.

Intrigued, I dug a little deeper.  I found a website called Personality Hacker who goes into detail about each type.  Listening to their INFJ episode was mind-blowing – it felt like it was made just for me!

This was a major moment in my life. I realized that not everyone picks up energy and information in the same way.

The INFJ Experience

INFJs, often called “The Counselor” are known for picking up others’ emotions and energy.  For many of us, learning about their personality type can be a profound experience.

Understanding my unique strengths was a game-changer:

  1.  I stopped being so hard on myself.
  2.  I realized I was picking up information others weren’t.
  3.  I understood my anxiety differently.

This exciting insight eventually led me to start my blog to share my thoughts and experiences.

Understanding Intuition

Intuition isn’t some mystical power – it’s your brain’s way of processing information behind the scenes.

Here’s how it works:

Your brain constantly takes in loads of information from your environment.

It quickly compares new information to your experiences and knowledge.

When it spots a pattern, it sends you a “hunch” or a gut feeling.

This all happens so fast that you’re not even aware of it. That’s why it feels like you “just know” something without knowing why.

Think of intuition like a personal radio:

  • Some people ‘see’ mental images (clairvoyance)
  • Others ‘feel’ emotions or physical sensations (clairsentience)
  • Some just ‘know’ things without knowing how (claircognizance)

Your intuition is unique to you. It’s shaped by your experiences, personality, and how you naturally process information. That’s why understanding your personality type can be so eye-opening – it helps you tune into your personal intuition frequency.

How This Knowledge Helped Me

Understanding my unique perception of information changed everything:

  1. I saw my anxiety as intuitive insights.
  2. I learned to trust my gut feelings more.
  3. I started meditating to help me tune in to my intuition.

This new understanding of myself and my abilities unlocked a new way for me to interact with the world.

The Bigger Picture

Many people, especially the younger generations, might be walking around feeling overwhelmed or anxious because they’re picking up on so much information without realizing it. Their sensitiviy to energy may be more intense than it is for others around them.

They might even be experiencing physical symptoms because of an overload of data and their intuition working overtime.

Understanding your personal intuitive style is important, especially if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed.

It can be like finding the user manual for your inner antenna.

Moving Forward

By recognizing and nurturing our intuitive abilities, we can:

  1. Better regulate our nervous system.
  2. Make more confident decisions.
  3. Understand ourselves and others more deeply.

Remember, we all have these abilities. The key is learning to work with your intuition (unique energy signature) instead of feeling confused by it.

My Light Bulb Moment

It all started with a simple personality test.

When I discovered I was an INFJ, everything changed.

Listening to that podcast about my personality type, I broke down in tears.  It was as if someone had finally flipped a switch, lighting up a part of me that had been in the dark for so long.

Suddenly, I could see clearly.

Every word resonated deeply, like they were speaking a language only I could understand. For the first time in ages, I felt seen and understood.

Learning about my INFJ personality helped me make sense of experiences I’d struggled with for years.

It helped me connect to a deeper part of myself, my true self.
