Need a quick way to calm your nerves?

This energy healing technique is so easy that you’ll feel relaxed in no time.  No meds required!

Lately it seems we’re constantly bombarded with negative energy around us.  Even when we do our best to start the day on a positive note, stressful situations show up everyday to impact the day.  When we react and let our emotions get the best of us, it can be a drain on our energy.   Even subtle things like daily headline news, interacting with coworkers, or waiting in line at the grocery store can zap our energy.

Just Hold Your Tongue

The Tongue Relaxation Exercise is a simple technique that can quickly calm you when you’re stressed.  It’s super convenient and can be practiced anywhere.

The nerves that radiate out from the nervous system regulate every single major organ in the body. That’s why when we’re stressed, our entire body tenses up.   (jaw, neck, shoulders) and when we release it, we relax and we feel better.

Research shows that when you relax your tongue on the floor of your mouth, your whole body relaxes. (Dawson Church, Ph. D., National Institute of Integrative Healthcare)

When we react to stress, the body shifts to a state of “fight or flight; the body’s automatic natural response to a perceived threat.  When we feel threatened, the tongue becomes tense and presses up against the roof of the mouth.

But when we deliberately relax the tongue, it sends back a safety signal that there’s no longer a perceived threat.

Even if you’re experiencing a stressful external event, the body will get the message that your survival is not a threat if you relax your tongue.

Try It!

  1. Have a thought about something that makes you upset or angry.

  2. Briefly press your tongue against the roof of your mouth to make it tense, then stop doing it to allow your tongue to relax.

  3. Simply let your tongue go.

  4. As you inhale for 6 seconds, feel it relax.

  5. As you exhale for 6 seconds, feel it relax even more.

  6. You will find that as long as you keep your tongue relaxed, you won’t get as worked up around that thought.

Make it a habit!

Remind yourself to practice. Next time you feel agitated, upset, or have trouble sleeping, take a deep breath, hold (relax) your tongue, breathe, and relax.

It can be the easiest way to peace and calm.
